Actor Dileep – Profile
Dileep is one of the famous south indian actors who predominantly acts in Malayalam film industry. He started his career as a Mimicry artist and later turned to acting. He made his debut in the industry through the movie Ennodishtam Koodamo (Cameo appearance), directed by Kamal. He is present in the industry from 1992.
Biography : Dileep was born in Aluva, Ernakuiam district. His original name is Gopalakrishnan Padmanabhan Pillai, later he had adopted the name as Dileep. His father is Padmanabhan Pillai and his mother named Sarojam. He has two siblings – Sabitha and Anoop. He did his schooling at from a reputed school near his home. He holds a bachelor degree in History from Maharaja’s College, Ernankulam.
Dileep started his career as a mimicry artist in Kalabhavan. He had participated so many stage programs during that time. He became popular through the comedy series program comicola aired on Asianet channel. Dileep released a comedy program De Maveli Kombathu along with his friend Nadir Shah, which was success in that year and he repeatedly launched new episodes in successive year during Onam time.
He had joined as an assistant director with Kamal, later Kamal introduced him to the silver screen through the movie Ennodishtam Koodamo (1992). He shot to fame after appearing in the film Manathe Kottaram(1994). After that he has gifted so many hit films to the industry till the date.
He started his career in the industry as an assistant director, now he is one of the highest paid actor in Mollywood. He is a film producer and has produced many films, He is a playback singer and has sung few songs such as – Onnaam Malakeri (Kalyanaraman), Saare Saare (Thilakkam), Kandaal Njaanoru (Sound Thoma), Ashakoshale Pennundo (Sringaaravelan) etc. He had appeared in supporting roles during the initial stage of his acting. Then he paired with actress Manju Warrier in many films and almost all of them was hit in the industry.
He married to Manju Warier in 1998, they have a daughter – Meenakshi. Dileep and Manju divorced in 2014 and their daughter is now with him. In 2016, Dileep married to actress Kavya Madhavan.
He made his debut in the industry through the film Ennodishtam Koodamo, directed by Kamal and which was released in 1992. In which he played a cameo role. After that he shared the screen with Mammootty through the film Sainyam, directed by Joshiy. He presented the character as cadet. He shot to fame among the audience after appearing in the movie Manathe Kottaram, directed by Sunil. In which he presented the lead character named DILEEP, he adopted his stage name as Dileep after the success of the movie.
After that he appeared in many films in supporting as well as in lead roles such as Pidakkozhi Koovunna Noottandu (1994), Alanchery Thambrakal (1995), Kalyana Sowgandhikam (1996), Patanayakan (1996), Kakkakum Poochakkum Kalyanam (1996), Sallapam (1996), Varnappakittu (1997), Ee Puzhayum Kadannu (1997), Kudamamaattam (1997), Ullasappoonkattu (1997), Punjabi House (1998), Udayapuram Sulthan (1999) etc. He paired with actress Manju Warrier in most of his film during 95 and all among them was hit in the industry.
Lal Jose’s film Meesha Madhavan (2002) gave him a perfect breakthrough in his career. In which he appeared in the role of thief and Kavya Madhavan played opposite to Him. The film was made big impact at the box office of the state. The film helped him to increase his star value, after that he presented so many heart touching characters in different films, that is why he known as Janapriya Nayakan.
He won Kerala state film award (4 times) – Kunjikoonan (2002, Special Jury), Kathavasheshan (2004, producer of second best flm), Chanthupottu (2005, Special Jury), Vellaripraavinte Changathi (2011, Best Actor).
Career as Producer
Dileep turns to production through the movie C.I.D. Moosa, directed by Johny Antony and which was released in 2003. It was a romantic comedy movie and It features Dileep and Bhavana in the lead roles. It was a big hit in that year. He also produced the following films.
